Association between the use of a stylet in endotracheal intubation and postoperative arytenoid dislocation: A case-control study
BMC Anesthesiology Jun 04, 2018
Wu L, et al. - In this case-control study at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, researchers investigated risk factors associated with arytenoid dislocation (AD; a rare but severe complication after general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation), including the use of an intubation stylet. Based on gender, age and type of surgery, patients who experienced AD were matched 1:3 with controls. To determine links between potential risk factors and AD, they used multiple conditional logistic regression. The use of an intubation stylet for endotracheal intubation appeared to protect against AD. The increase in the risk of AD was attributed to prolonged operation time.
