Association between serum S100A9 levels and liver necroinflammation in chronic hepatitis B
Journal of Translational Medicine Apr 12, 2018
Wu R, et al. - The correlation between serum S100A9 with viral replication and liver necroinflammation was comprehensively scrutinized by researchers in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection. Enrollees underwent liver biopsy for grading of necroinflammation (G) and staging of fibrosis (S). Compared to healthy controls (HCs), a rise was noted in the serum S100A9 levels in CHB patients. It was determined that HBV infection could enhance S100A9 expression. A connection was disclosed between serum S100A9 levels with viral load. Findings demonstrated the potential of serum S100A9 in discriminating the grades of liver necroinflammation, especially in CHB patients with normal or mildly increased ALT levels.
