Association between serum osteoprotegerin level and mortality in kidney transplant recipients
Transplant International Feb 26, 2021
Gupta V, Ekundayo O, Nemeth ZK, et al. - Researchers used a cohort of prevalent kidney transplant (KT) recipients to examine whether serum osteoprotegerin (OPG: a vascular calcification inhibitor) levels were associated with mortality in this patient population, adjusting for earlier unassessed potential confounders, including fibroblast growth factor 23 and interleukin 6. From 982 prevalent KT recipients, data were gained regarding socio‐demographic and clinical parameters, medical and transplant history, and laboratory findings. A 49% higher risk of mortality was observed in relation to each 1 pmol/L higher‐serum OPG level. Thus, findings demonstrated a link of serum OPG with all‐cause mortality, independent of various novel confounders, in prevalent KT recipients.
