Movement Disorders Feb 14, 2018
Dauvilliers Y, et al. - A comparative scrutiny was carried out of serum hepcidin and ferritin levels in drug-free patients with primary restless legs syndrome and healthy controls along with an examination of the correlation between hepcidin level and restless legs syndrome severity. The intention was to comprehend the role of iron homeostasis dysregulation in restless legs syndrome. When compared to healthy controls, higher hepcidin level was found in drug-free patients with primary restless legs syndrome. It could be related to restless legs syndrome clinical severity. The yielded data stressed on the complex peripheral iron metabolism deregulation in restless legs syndrome, opening potential perspectives for a personalized approach with a hepcidin antagonist.
