Association between selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and kidney cancer risk: A nationwide population‐based cohort study
International Journal of Cancer Sep 27, 2020
Lee MJ, Huang CW, Chen YL, et al. - Researchers utilized data from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database to investigate the association between selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) use and the risk of kidney cancer in this population‐based retrospective cohort study. This analysis was done with 222,024 SSRI users and 221,361 SSRI nonusers, after applying propensity score matching to adjust for gender, age, urbanization level, comorbidity, and medication use. Findings revealed that decreased kidney cancer risk was observed in relation to SSRIs. Besides, protective impacts of citalopram and paroxetine were indicated in depressed patients with kidney cancer.
