Association between same day discharge total knee and total hip arthroplasty and risks of cardiac/pulmonary complications and readmission: A population-based observational study
BMJ Open Dec 14, 2019
Liu J, Elkassabany N, Poeran J, et al. - In this population-based observational study of individuals that participated from 708 institutions who underwent primary TKA or primary THA between 2011 and 2017, experts determined whether same-day discharge TKA or THA was not correlated with heightened risk of unplanned readmission and adverse outcomes within 30 days of surgery. A total of 226,481 individuals with TKA and 140,557 people with THA were recognized. It was found in the comparison between the length of stay (LOS) 1 discharge, LOS 0 discharge had greater odds of cardiac/pulmonary complications which were contrasted with TKA and THA. While the overall burden of difficulties is relatively low unless coming studies could verify or challenge these findings, the measured approach is expedient when suggesting the discharge of individuals on the same day of surgery.
