Association between psychotic experiences and subsequent suicidal thoughts and behaviors: A cross-national analysis from the World Health Organization World Mental Health Surveys
JAMA Psychiatry Nov 05, 2017
Bromet EJ, et al. - An cross-national analysis investigated the temporal association between psychotic experiences (PEs) and subsequent suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) across the lifespan as well as the influence of mental disorders (antecedent to the STBs) on these associations. The authors found an association between psychotic experiences and elevated odds of subsequent STBs across the life course that could not be explained by antecedent mental disorders. Findings highlighted the importance of including information about PEs in screening instruments designed to predict STBs.
