Association between psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and gout: A nationwide population-based study
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Mar 27, 2019
Hu SCS, et al. - Investigators examined a relationship between psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and gout in this nationwide population-based cross-sectional study in Taiwan. They identified 114,623 cases with gout and 114,623 subjects without gout. They recorded an enhanced prevalence of psoriasis in gout cases vs subjects without gout ie, 1.6% vs 1.1%. They also reported an inclined prevalence of psoriatic arthritis (0.3% vs 0.1%) in subjects with gout when compared with patients without gout. The strength of the association between gout and psoriasis was alike among both the genders after stratification by age and sex. Variations in the strength of the association were found correlated with age group (strongest association was noticed with cases of age 41–50 years).
