Association between psoriasis and celiac disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Dec 11, 2019
Acharya P, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers intended to determine if there is a connection between psoriasis and celiac disease (CD). For quantitative analysis, the adjusted effect sizes or crude data have been extracted. Of the 754 citations that were initially found, 18 studies were involved. Random effects meta-analysis found significant odds ratios (ORs) of 2.16 for CD in psoriasis patients and 1.8 for psoriasis in CD patients. The risk of new-onset psoriasis was also found to be significantly increased in CD. According to this two-way meta-analyses, a significant link was found between psoriasis and CD. Clinicians should be aware of this relationship, and psoriasis patients with bowel problems can benefit from celiac disease screening through questionnaires or interviews with subsequent consultation on gastroenterology.
