Association between postprandial hyperglycemia at clinic visits and all-cause and cancer mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes: A long-term historical cohort study in Japan
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Jan 17, 2019
Takao T, et al. - In 1582 Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes who first visited the clinic from 1995 to 1998 and continued visiting for at least 1 year, researchers assessed the impact of postprandial hyperglycemia on all-cause and cancer mortality regardless of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in a real-world setting. In addition, age at death was examined. In this historical cohort study, a total of 233 people died. They observed that the average age at death (men/women) was 75.6/80.8 years. In patients with type 2 diabetes independent of HbA1c levels, postprandial hyperglycemia at clinic visits might be linked to all-cause and cancer mortality. Patients with type 2 diabetes might be approaching the age of death in other people.
