Association between polycystic ovary syndrome and venous thromboembolism: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Thrombosis Research Nov 27, 2019
Gariani K, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis of five large observational studies published between 2004 and 2018, usually using administrative data, set in Denmark, the USA or the United Kingdom, experts intended to systematically evaluate the available evidence to assess the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) related to PCOS, and ascertain whether noted heightened risks could be described by a greater predominance of obesity and hormonal treatments. PCOS seemed to be a risk factor for VTE in unadjusted analyses, irrespective of its relative excess weight and greater use of combined oral contraceptives. Hence, this should be taken into consideration in the pharmacological management of PCOS.
