Association between plasma irisin in pregnancy and postpartum glucose levels among Chinese women: A cohort study
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Feb 09, 2021
Tang N, Chen Y, Wu W, et al. - Via performing a prospective cohort study of 453 pregnant women (20‐28 weeks), researchers sought to determine if irisin in pregnancy was correlated with postpartum glucose levels among Chinese women and investigated the modifiable factors. In mid‐pregnancy, the mean plasma irisin was 13.73 ng/ml. Mid‐pregnancy plasma irisin levels were noted to have significant negative correlation with fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels and IFG at 6‐8 weeks postpartum among Chinese women. These associations were noted to be stronger in women with higher FBG values. In addition, breastfeeding may lead to modification in this relationship.
