Association between phenotypic characteristics and melanoma in a large prospective cohort study
Journal of Investigative Dermatology Oct 27, 2018
Olsen CM, et al. - Authors evaluated melanoma risks linked to pigmentation characteristics and other phenotypes in a population-based prospective study with 38,854 participants. They also evaluated additive interactions. Tendency to sunburn was not correlated with melanoma after adjusting for tanning inability. Significantly higher melanoma risks were seen in the people with both high nevus density and a history of multiple keratinocyte cancers than those having only one of those traits. As per data, a stronger relation to melanoma risk was seen with nevus density and inability to tan vs susceptibility to sunburn.
