Association between periodontitis and peripheral artery disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis

BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jul 14, 2018

Yang S, et al. - Researchers evaluated the strength of the link between peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and periodontitis by analyzing data from relevant observational studies identified from PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library. They pooled risk ratios (RRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) from included studies. They compared the difference in periodontal-related parameters between PAD and non-PAD patients by pooling weighted mean differences (WMDs) and their 95% CIs. They found that periodontitis was significantly associated with PAD. Compared with control subjects, more missing teeth were detected in PAD patients.
