Association between pelvic inflammatory disease and risk of ovarian cancer: An updated meta-analysis
Gynecologic Oncology Feb 18, 2020
Piao J, et al. - In view of the conflicting reports concerning the association between pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and ovarian cancer, researchers sought to investigate the relationship between PID and the risk of this malignancy via performing an updated meta-analysis. Searching Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science until November 1, 2019, they identified 16 studies for inclusion in this meta-analysis. PID was associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer. Outcomes of this updated meta-analysis illustrate the association of PID with an increased risk of ovarian cancer. They identified the lowest heterogeneity for associations between PID and ovarian cancer in Asian patients, ovarian cancer in case-control studies, invasive ovarian cancer, borderline ovarian cancer, and non-serous ovarian cancer.
