Association between patient-reported hearing and visual impairments and functional, psychological, and cognitive status among older adults with cancer

Soto-Perez-de-Celis E, et al. - In this secondary analysis combining two prospective cohorts of adults aged ≥ 65 years with solid tumors who were receiving chemotherapy, researchers examined the link between patient-reported hearing and/or visual impairment and physical function, instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), anxiety, depression, and cognition. Findings revealed a common occurrence of sensory impairment among older cancer patients. The risk of developing functional, psychological, and cognitive deficits was higher in patients with sensory impairment.
