Addiction Aug 13, 2019
Hsu WY, et al. – Researchers compared patients with and without opioid use disorder (OUD) for fractures and osteoporosis prevalence in Taiwan. Using data from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan, they included 3,695 adult patients with OUD and 14,780 without OUD in this retrospective cohort study. The analysis revealed a higher adjusted hazard ratio for fracture among Taiwanese patients with OUD vs those without OUD. Male elderly patients with diabetes mellitus, alcohol-related illness, or osteoporosis were noted to be at higher risk of fracture.
