Association between obesity and the risk of gastric cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women: A nationwide cohort study
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Jun 10, 2021
Choi IY, Choi YJ, Shin DW, et al. - This study was undertaken to determine if obese women have different risks of gastric cancer (GC) before and after menopause. Utilizing the Korean National Health Insurance System Cohort (2009–2014), 1,418,180 premenopausal and 4,854,187 postmenopausal women aged ≥ 40 years were recruited. Forty-two thousand four hundred forty-one women were newly diagnosed with GC during the mean follow-up period of 7.2 years. There was a positive association between the highest body mass index and waist circumference category and the risk of GC in postmenopausal women, but not in premenopausal women.
