Association between number of siblings and cardiovascular risk factors in childhood and in adulthood: The Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study
The Journal of Pediatrics Jun 06, 2021
Pihlman J, Magnussen CG, Rovio SP, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for determining the correlation of the number of siblings on cardiovascular risk factors in childhood and in adulthood. Three thousand five hundred fifty-four candidates (51% female) from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study with cardiovascular disease risk factor data at baseline 1980 (age 3-18 years) and 2,491 candidates with longitudinal risk factor data at the 2011 follow-up. Children who grew up without siblings had lower levels of cardiovascular risk factors in both childhood and adulthood. The number of siblings may aid in identifying individuals at high risk who may benefit from early intervention.
