Association between nucleos(t)ide analogue therapy for hepatitis B and Sjögren’s syndrome: 15‐year analysis of the national database of Taiwan
Journal of Viral Hepatitis Feb 10, 2021
Tung CH, Li CY, Chen YC, et al. - Researchers assessed Sjögren syndrome risk in hepatitis B virus (HBV)‐infected patients after nucleotide therapy, in this long‐term retrospective analysis. They selected a total of 26,147 adults who received a diagnosis of HBV infection between 1997 and 2012, using claims data. They frequency‐matched, on age and gender at 1:4 ratios, 3,268 HBV‐infected patients who were treated with nucleotide therapy (treated cohort) in order to identify a control group comprising 13,072 counterparts without therapy (untreated cohort). According to findings, a lower risk of Sjögren syndrome was observed in relation to HBV infection treated with nucleotides. This suggests that HBV infection has a potential role in Sjögren syndrome development.
