Association between nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and colorectal cancer: A population-based case-control study
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Apr 30, 2018
Kuo CN, et al. - Researchers tested the efficacy of aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as primary prevention against colorectal cancer (CRC) occurrence in Taiwan. The National Health Insurance Research Database was used and CRC patients were identified in the Registry of Catastrophic Illness Patient Database. Controls, matched with cases, were patients without CRC identified from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database. NSAID exposure was defined as at least two prescriptions 13 to 48 months before the index date. In this population, aspirin and NSAIDs were linked to a decreased risk of CRC development. This investigation offered evidence for these therapy options as possible chemoprevention for CRC in an Asian population.
