Pediatric Research Apr 21, 2019
Luo L, et al. - Given that serum bilirubin levels were inversely associated with obesity in adults, researchers ascertained if neonatal jaundice was correlated with childhood obesity in preterm infants via obtaining data from the US Collaborative Perinatal Project. At age 7 years, neonatal bilirubin levels have been used as exposure factors for obesity. Eight hundred sixty-five of 5019 preterm infants were obese at seven years of age in the study subjects. In preterm infants, neonatal bilirubin levels have positive trends of connections with childhood obesity.
