Association between more intensive vs less intensive blood pressure lowering and risk of mortality in chronic kidney disease stages 3 to 5: A systematic review and meta-analysis

JAMA Internal Medicine Evidence based | Sep 08, 2017

Malhotra R, et al. – This meta-analysis was performed to examine whether more intensive compared with less intensive blood pressure (BP) control was associated with reduced mortality risk in persons with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 3 to 5. Outcomes indicated that randomization to more intensive BP control was associated with lower mortality risk in patients with hypertension and CKD. However, further research work was needed to evaluate absolute BP targets for the maximal benefit and minimal harm.
