Association between mental health disorders and mortality among patients with COVID-19 in 7 countries: A systematic review and meta-analysis
JAMA Aug 01, 2021
Fond G, Nemani K, Etchecopar-Etchart D, et al. - Risk of COVID-19 mortality was compared between patients with vs without mental health disorders. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 16 observational studies in 7 countries with 19,086 patients was performed. According to both pooled crude and adjusted odds ratios, risk of COVID-19 mortality was higher in cases with mental health disorders. The highest odds ratios were recorded for patients with severe mental health disorders. Considering these findings, they recommend targeting patients with COVID-19 and mental health disorders as a high-risk population for severe forms of COVID-19, requiring increased preventive and disease management strategies.
