Association between mean platelet volume and major adverse cardiac events in percutaneous coronary interventions: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Coronary Artery Disease Nov 01, 2020
Chen Z, Li N, Wang J, et al. - Researchers examined the link between mean platelet volume (MPV) and long-term major adverse cardiac event (MACE) in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), via this meta-analysis. They explored Cochrane Library, Pubmed, EMBASE, Ovid MEDLINE, and BIOSIS databases to identify studies examining incidences of MACE and MPV among PCI patients. They analyzed 33 studies. Greater risks of having MACE and higher incidence of mortality were reported in patients with larger MPV vs those with smaller MPV. Findings are suggestive of a significant link between larger MPV and MACE among PCI patients. Experts suggested the likely usefulness of MPV, an easily accessible indicator, in aiding PCI patients’ risk evaluation and stratification.
