Association between LKB1 expression and prognosis of patients with solid tumors: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis
BMJ Open Aug 09, 2019
Ren YH, Zhao FJ, Mo HY, et al. - Via an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of 25 studies containing 6,012 patients with solid tumors, researchers intended to assess whether Liver kinase B1 (LKB1) expression levels were correlated with clinicopathology and prognosis of individuals with solid tumors. A significantly shorter OS in univariate analysis and multivariate analysis was exhibited by individuals with low expression in comparison with individuals with high LKB1 expression. On the contrary, the two groups demonstrated comparable disease-free survival in the univariate analysis as well as comparable relapse-free survival in univariate analysis and multivariate analysis. Significantly worse tumor differentiation, larger tumors, earlier lymph node metastasis, and more advanced tumor, node, metastases (TNM) stage was exhibited by individuals with low LKB1 expression. Therefore, shorter OS, worse tumor differentiation, larger tumors, earlier lymph node metastasis, and more advanced TNM stage were prognosticated by low LKB1 expression. Moreover, low LKB1 expression could be a beneficial biomarker of poor clinicopathology and prognosis.
