Association between lifestyle and hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype in the PREDIMED-Plus Study
Obesity Mar 13, 2020
Fernández-García JC, Muñoz-Garach A, Martínez-González MA, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is an association between metabolic risk factors and the hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) phenotype in the elderly at high cardiovascular risk. In total, 6,874 people (aged 55 to 75) with BMI ≥ 27 and < 40 kg/m2 were involved and classified by presence (HTGW+) or absence (HTGW−) of HTGW (waist circumference: men ≥ 102 cm, women ≥ 88 cm; fasting plasma triglycerides ≥ 150 mg/dL). In this population, HTGW is a highly prevalent phenotype linked to a younger age, higher BMI, tobacco use, and reduced Mediterranean diet adherence. HTGW− people were more physically active with greater total physical activity, and less had hypertension.
