Association between left atrial appendage occlusion and readmission for thromboembolism among patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing concomitant cardiac surgery

Friedman DJ, et al. - The correlation between surgical left atrial appendage occlusion (S-LAAO) vs no receipt of S-LAAO with the risk of thromboembolism was comprehensively assessed by the experts among older patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing cardiac surgery. When compared with no S-LAAO, S-LAAO demonstrated a relation with a lower risk of readmission for thromboembolism over 3 years. Hence, data supported the use of S-LAAO.
