Association between ideal cardiovascular health and markers of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD)
Clinical Cardiology Dec 02, 2018
Shpilsky D, et al. - Researchers delineated the association between ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) and markers of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) using data from the Heart Strategies Concentrating on Risk Evaluation (Heart SCORE) study. For each of the ideal CVH factor met, they assigned 1. Using the Endo-PAT device, they measured endothelial function, expressed as Framingham reactive hyperemia index (fRHI). They used electron beam computed tomography and carotid ultrasonography to determine the coronary artery calcium (CAC) and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), respectively. In this community-based study with low prevalence of ideal CVD, lower burden of subclinical CVD was observed even in correlation with achieving ≥ 3 ideal CVH factors, supporting the utility of this construct for disease prevention.
