Association between hypercoagulable conditions and calciphylaxis in patients with renal disease: A case-control study
JAMA Dermatology Dec 20, 2017
Dobry AS, et al. - An identification was pursued of the hypercoagulable conditions which served as risk factors for developing calciphylaxis while controlling for chronic kidney disease (CKD). The risk factors that were discovered for the development of calciphylaxis in patients with the late-stage renal disease were the presence of lupus anticoagulant and combined thrombophilias. Clinicians were cautioned regarding these associations in patients with impaired kidney function. Increased screening and appropriate anticoagulation treatment were recommended to reduce the risk of calciphylaxis development.
