Ahmed ST, Mahtta D, Rehman H, et al. - Researchers performed this study on patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), to determine if there exists a link between the frequency of visits with primary care providers (PCPs) and higher use of evidence-based statin prescriptions and adherence in these patients. They selected patients having ASCVD, aged ≥ 18 years, cared in 130 facilities and related community-based outpatient clinics in the entire Veterans Affairs Health Care System between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014. They analyzed overall 1,249,061 patients with ASCVD, with a mean age of 71.9 years, 98.0% were male. They reported a higher probability of any statin use, high intensity statin use, and statin adherence, in relation to frequent visits with PCPs.
