Association between frailty and ischemic heart disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Geriatrics Jun 16, 2021
Liperoti R, Vetrano DL, Palmer K, et al. - A systematic review of literature and a meta-analysis were performed to evaluate the relationship between frailty and ischemic heart disease (IHD). All the studies that provided information on the association between frailty and IHD, regardless of the study setting, study design, or definition of IHD and frailty were selected. Researchers carried out searches of PubMed, Web of Science and Embase for relevant papers. Via random effect models and Mantel-Haenszel weighting, Pooled estimates were obtained. A total of 37 studies were enrolled. The data demonstrate that frailty is quite common in older persons with IHD. Among older adults with IHD, the identification of frailty should be considered relevant to provide individualized strategies of cardiovascular prevention and care. There is a need for future study to evaluate the relationship between frailty and IHD and investigate the potential common biological ground.
