Association between family history of diabetes and clusters of adherence to healthy behaviors: Cross-sectional results from the Health Examinees-Gem (HEXA-G) study
BMJ Open Jun 20, 2019
Choi J, et al. - Via a cross-sectional study with 128,520 participants in the Health Examinees-Gem (HEXA-G) study with a family history of diabetes from 39 Korean centers, researchers evaluated whether individuals with affected family members could adhere to healthy behaviors. A regular exercise regimen and a healthy diet were more likely to be followed by participants with a family history of diabetes, but a normal body composition was less likely. The links strengthened when the affected member was a sibling, when the number of affected members increased, or when the age at diagnosis of the affected member was younger than 50 years. Those with a family history of diabetes were less likely to stick to a “normal body composition” cluster of behaviors.
