Association between facility volume and mortality of patients with classic Hodgkin lymphoma
Cancer Feb 04, 2020
Goyal G, Tella SH, Funni S, et al. - Given the previous studies demonstrating a correlation between higher annual facility patient volume and reduced mortality in oncology, researchers her examined if such a relationship exists for classic Hodgkin lymphoma, an uncommon but highly curable disease. The National Cancer Database (2003-2014) yielded data from 47,633 patients with classic Hodgkin lymphoma treated at 1,310 facilities. Treatment at high-volume centers was identified to be correlated with lower overall mortality relative to undergoing treatment at lower volume centers. In view of such differences in this high curable malignancy, they emphasize referral to higher volume facilities or the emulation of their care models as possibly beneficial.
