Association between extremely high high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and hypertensive retinopathy: Results of a cross-sectional study from Kanagawa Investigation of Total Checkup Data from the National Database-6 (KITCHEN-6)
BMJ Open May 16, 2021
Nakajima K, Higuchi R, Mizusawa K, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to examine the connection between extremely high high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (EH-HDL) and hypertensive retinopathy (HR). In total, 4,072 general Japanese population, aged 40 to 74 years, who had regular medical check-ups including fundus examinations were analyzed. HR and clinical parameters including serum HDL-C were examined. EH-HDL may be linked to HR independently of blood pressure, implying that EH-HDL reflects a special atherosclerotic condition.
