Gomajee R, El-Khour F, Goldberg M, et al. - Researchers examined the influence of electronic cigarette use on smoking status in the general population via performing this cohort study of 5,400 daily smokers (2,906 women and 2,494 men; mean [SD] age, 44.9 [12.4] years). Observations revealed a significantly higher decrease in the number of cigarettes smoked per day, as well as an increase in smoking cessation attempts, in correlation with regular (daily) use of electronic cigarette. However, there was an increase in the rate of smoking relapse among former smokers in correlation with electronic cigarette use.
