BMC Pediatrics Nov 22, 2019
Folayan MOL, Arije O, El Tantawi M, et al. - In this study, experts ascertained the relationship between malnutrition and early childhood caries (ECC) in children resident in sub-urban, Nigeria. Of the 370 children, 20 were underweight, 20 were overweight, 67 were wasting, 120 were stunted and 18 had ECC. For this study population, being stunted, underweight, overweight were the indicators of malnutrition - and fair oral hygiene were risk indicators for ECC. When malnutrition was involved as an explanatory variable for ECC, the frequency of sugar intake was not an important risk indicator in the study population.
