Association between dose of glucocorticoids and coronary artery lesions in Kawasaki disease

Arthritis Care & Research Jun 03, 2018

Okubo Y, et al. - Experts evaluated the effects of different doses of glucocorticoids on clinical outcomes of Kawasaki Disease (KD). With the help of the Japanese Diagnosis Procedure Combination inpatient database, authors assessed KD patients who were treated with normal-dose (prednisolone 0.5–4.0 mg/kg/day) or high-dose (methylprednisolone 10–40 mg/kg/day) glucocorticoids. Results demonstrated similar risks of coronary artery lesions (CALs) and readmissions and total hospitalization costs between the normal-dose and the high-dose glucocorticoids groups for patients with KD. In the high-dose group, the total length of hospital stay was shorter vs in the normal-dose group.
