Association between different acute stroke therapies and development of post stroke seizures
BMC Neurology May 09, 2018
Naylor J, et al. - Experts investigated the possibility of a correlation between intravenous thrombolysis, intra-arterial thrombolysis and post-stroke seizure (PSS) development in this retrospective, multicenter cohort study conducted at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Jingling Hospital Nanjing. The enrollment consisted of patients with anterior circulation ischemic stroke admitted from 2008–2015. A higher risk of epilepsy was seen in subjects receiving thrombolytic or intra-arterial reperfusion therapies for acute ischemic stroke. These patients could gain a benefit from longer follow-up. Findings did not disclose any evidence for an additive or synergistic effect of treatment modality on seizure development.
