Association between dietary carotenoid intakes and hypertension in adults: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007–2014
Journal of Hypertension Nov 14, 2019
Li Z, et al. - Researchers utilized data from NHANES 2007–2014, to determine the link between dietary carotenoid intakes and hypertension in this cross-sectional analysis. They collected dietary carotenoids data from 24-h dietary recall interviews. SBP at least 130 mmHg or DBP at least 80 mmHg, receiving antihypertensive medicine or self-report, defined hypertension. They selected 17,398 adults aged 20 years and over. According to the findings, the consumptions of α-carotene, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, lycopene, lutein with zeaxanthin, and total carotenoids were inversely related to hypertension in US adults. For general adult population, the consumption of total carotenoids at least 100 μg/kg per day was recommended.
