Association between depression and outcomes in Chinese patients with myocardial infarction and nonobstructive coronary arteries
Journal of the American Heart Association Mar 03, 2019
Gu XH, et al. - In this prospective cohort study, researchers assessed the link between depression and clinical outcomes in 633 Chinese patients with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) who were followed up for 3 years. All-cause mortality and cardiovascular events were the end points. Using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria for reference, a psychiatric interview was conducted to ascertain the diagnosis of depression. The occurrence of all-cause death and cardiovascular events was reported in 93 individuals and in 170 individuals, respectively, during the follow-up period. A significant link between depression and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events was demonstrated by Kaplan-Meier curves. In patients with MINOCA, increased risk of adverse clinical outcomes was observed in association with new diagnosis of depression at the time of myocardial infarction.
