Nogueira LM, et al. - The researchers intended to determine the correlation between declared hurricane disasters and survival of subjects with non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who underwent radiation treatment. The provision of oncology care could be intervened by natural disasters, such as hurricanes. Radiotherapy was especially vulnerable since it needed dependable electrical power and daily treatment. For subjects who underwent treatment for locally advanced NSCLC, disruptions were particularly concerning because treatment delays as little as 2 days negatively influenced survival.
