Association between cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) 8473 T > C polymorphism and cancer risk: A meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis
BMC Cancer Aug 30, 2018
Li Q, et al. - Researchers examined the potential link between COX-2 8473 T > C polymorphism and cancer susceptibility via this meta-analysis of 79 case-control studies with a total of 38,634 cases and 55,206 controls. These studies were identified from PubMed, EMBASE, OVID, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Wanfang Data, till September 29, 2017. The strength of the association was assessed by using the pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup analysis according to ethnicity, source of controls, genotyping method and cancer type, was also carried out. Via trial sequential analysis (TSA), they intended to decrease the risk of type I error and to estimate if the current evidence of the results was sufficient and conclusive. Findings demonstrated no significant link between COX-2 8473 T > C polymorphism and cancer risk.
