Association between COVID-19 diagnosis and in-hospital mortality in patients hospitalized with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
JAMA Nov 21, 2021
Saad M, Kennedy KF, Imran H, et al. - Researchers aimed at determining the impact of a concomitant diagnosis of COVID-19 on clinical outcome in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) via comparing patients with STEMI with vs without COVID-19 infection with respect to their characteristics, treatment, and outcomes.
Retrospective cohort study of 80,449 patients.
Patients with vs without a concomitant diagnosis of COVID-19 had in-hospital mortality rates of 15.2% vs 11.2% among those with out-of-hospital STEMI and 78.5% vs 46.1% among those with in-hospital STEMI; the two differences were statistically significant.
Overall there were significantly higher rates of in-hospital mortality among patients with STEMI in correlation with a concomitant diagnosis of COVID-19.
