Association between congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction and mode of delivery at birth
Journal of AAPOS Dec 07, 2018
Tavakoli M, et al. - Authors gauged the correlation between mode of delivery, incidence of congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO), and treatment outcomes. They retrospectively analyzed the medical records of children diagnosed with CNLDO at a tertiary referral center between 2012 and 2017. For CNLDO, cesarean section (CS) is a risk factor, independent of gestational age. A more complicated clinical course requiring additional surgical interventions is seen in the children born via CS. There were no significantly greater odds of CNLDO for CS vs vaginal delivery (VD) births among preterm babies.
