Association between circulating visfatin and gestational diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Acta Diabetologica Nov 14, 2018
Zhang W, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers intended to determine if there is an association between circulating visfatin and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a medical complication of any degree of glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. They used PubMed and Embase databases to search for relevant studies published up to September 30, 2017. No independent association was found between visfatin and GDM. Findings revealed that visfatin is associated with GDM through maternal overweight/obesity, which is one of the major factors leading to the development of GDM.
