Association between circadian rhythm disruption and polycystic ovary syndrome
Fertility and Sterility Dec 27, 2020
Wang F, Xie N, Wu Y, et al. - Researchers conducted a multicenter questionnaire-based survey as well as in vivo and ex vivo studies with the aim to determine the correlation of circadian rhythm disruption with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and the potential underlying mechanism in ovarian granulosa cells (GCs). The survey was performed recruiting a total of 436 PCOS case individuals and 715 control individuals. In vivo and ex vivo studies were performed in PCOS-model rats and on ovarian GCs obtained from women with PCOS and control individuals. A significant association was observed between night shift work and PCOS. Distinct differences in the circadian variation of corticotropin-releasing hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, prolactin, and a 4-h phase delay in thyrotropic hormone levels were identified in PCOS-model rats. Ovarian GCs showed the existence of genome-wide chronodisruption.
