Aveson VG, Ilagan CH, Chou JF, et al. - Whether tumor seeds in the peritoneal cavity because of transperitoneal (TP) biopsy, increasing the risk of peritoneal metastases (PM) in patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHC).

• Patients undergoing surgery for PHC were retrospectively reviewed.

• Among a total of 262 patients undergoing surgery, TP biopsy was performed in 37 patients, and intraluminal biopsy or no biopsy was performed in 225 patients.

• Although patients with PHC commonly show PM, there appeared no association of TP biopsy with higher incidence of PM at surgery or at 1 or 2 years after surgery.
