Association between biopsy method and development of peritoneal metastases in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma
HPB Nov 13, 2021
Aveson VG, Ilagan CH, Chou JF, et al. - Whether tumor seeds in the peritoneal cavity because of transperitoneal (TP) biopsy, increasing the risk of peritoneal metastases (PM) in patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHC).
Patients undergoing surgery for PHC were retrospectively reviewed.
Among a total of 262 patients undergoing surgery, TP biopsy was performed in 37 patients, and intraluminal biopsy or no biopsy was performed in 225 patients.
Although patients with PHC commonly show PM, there appeared no association of TP biopsy with higher incidence of PM at surgery or at 1 or 2 years after surgery.
