Association between baseline, achieved, and reduction of CRP and cardiovascular outcomes after LDL cholesterol lowering with statins or ezetimibe: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of the American Heart Association Aug 21, 2019
Zhang XL, et al. - Researchers explored if benefits of more- vs less-intensive LDL-C (Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) lowering on cardiovascular events are correlated with baseline, achieved, or magnitude of decrease in CRP (C-reactive protein) concentrations. Searching PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane through July 2, 2018, they included 24 trials, with 171,250 patients randomly assigned to more- or less-intensive LDL-C–lowering treatments. Outcomes suggest a possible correlation of baseline CRP concentrations with the benefits of LDL-C lowering on myocardial infarction, but no other outcomes, however, there appeared no important association of the achieved and magnitude of reduction in CRP.
