Association between atopic eczema and cancer in England and Denmark
JAMA Oct 18, 2020
Mansfield KE, Schmidt SAJ, Darvalics B, et al. - Using healthcare data from matched cohort studies performed in England and Denmark, researchers intended to determine if there is an association between atopic eczema and cancer. They utilized data from cohort studies carried out in England (471,970 and 2,239,775 individuals with and without atopic eczema, respectively) and Denmark (44,945 and 445,673 individuals with and without atopic eczema, respectively). While no evidence was found of an increased risk of most cancers among people with atopic eczema vs those without eczema, atopic eczema was associated with a higher risk of lymphoma, especially non-Hodgkin lymphoma, that increased with increased eczema severity.
